About
Why ProRDP exists and who builds it.
RDP is amazing on Windows. And free!
Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) has been the gold standard for fast, reliable remote access to Windows machines for decades. It’s built in, hardware‑accelerated, and doesn’t require licenses, subscriptions, or third‑party software. If you’ve ever RDP’d into a box under your desk or a server in a closet, you know how seamless it feels.
macOS remote access… isn’t
On macOS, remote access is a mess. Apple’s built‑in VNC is slow, laggy, and unaccelerated. Third‑party tools pile on licensing fees, cloud accounts, proprietary clients, and performance caps. You end up paying more for an experience that feels worse.
Meet ProRDP - macOS remote access done right
ProRDP brings true RDP to macOS. Connect to your Mac from any RDP client, including Windows’ built‑in Remote Desktop, with no cloud services, no accounts, and no proprietary viewer apps. Just start the server and connect.
Built entirely in Swift, ProRDP uses full hardware acceleration for a remote desktop that feels local. 4K displays, multi‑monitor setups, smooth input, crisp rendering — it’s the macOS remote experience that Windows users have had for years.
Free for home use. No performance compromises
ProRDP is built for homelabbers, hobbyists, and anyone tired of switching monitor inputs or fighting sluggish VNC sessions. Use it at full resolution, across multiple Macs, with zero restrictions.
A commercial edition with enterprise features and centralized management is coming soon.
Created by someone who needed it
ProRDP was built by Aaron Crawfis, a longtime Windows/macOS user who finally got fed up with the lack of a real RDP server for macOS. After months of using it in his own homelab (and after friends kept asking for it), he released ProRDP to everyone.
